Officers say they were called to a party at a residence near N.E. 11th Street and Grand Boulevard about midnight. They found Kruz Laviolette, 21, outside. Laviolette had been shot and was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead. Laviolette was throwing a party for his younger sister at his home when a fight broke out. According to his family, Laviolette had tried getting in the middle to break up the fight when he was shot and killed. A cross with flowers has already been placed in the front of the yard of the family's home as a temporary memorial. "You can't explain it, you know, having a son or any child of yours being murdered," said Siera Laviolette, Kruz's father. Family described Kruz Laviolette as a young man who was always willing to put others first. "You could ask him to do anything and it would get done. You wanted something, he would be there for you, no matter what," said Wayne Rucker, Kruz's Uncle. Oklahoma City Police say they were already in route to the house because of concerns over fighting when they got another call that shots had been fired in the neighborhood. "The fight moved out to the street area as people were leaving and that's when the shooting occurred," said Oklahoma City Police Lt. Chris Gayhart. The family, who is seeking justice, said they are not angry at those responsible, instead they are praying for them. "I just hope the guys come forth and turn themselves in. I hope God deals with their hearts," said Siera Laviolette. It's especially hard on the family knowing Kruz's 2-year-old son will never get the chance to know his father. "I look at him and say he's not going to have his father, but we are going to be here for him and try to do all we can do for him and try and help him understand when he gets older about what happened to his father," said Kruz's father Siera Laviolette. No one has been taken into custody. Anyone with information on the crime is asked to call the homicide tip line at 297-1200. Caller can remain anonymous and maybe eligible for a cash reward. You can help out the family with funeral costs by calling 405-201-9522. The family has also set up a up a fund in Laviolette's name at any Chase Bank.
